Why should Christians study this area of the Old Testament? Because it is all about Jesus! He is our Tabernacle. All the instructions that God gave to Israel, to have their sin forgiven, were difficult and tedious and costly. They had to offer animals and build a sanctuary and operate through a priesthood.
