Fellowship With God

Everyone knows the "story" of Adam and Eve. They lived in Paradise, in a perfect world where everything they needed was provided for them by God. Adam was by our standards almost superhuman.. he could name all the animals... "And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof." (Genesis 2:19). Adam and Eve would have never died, nor had any sickness and disease, and all of us, their offspring, would have been the same. But what many people don't understand is that this perfect world was caused by a perfect relationship. Adam had perfect fellowship with God. He actually walked with God... "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden." (Genesis 3:8). ...they could talk to God face to face!

Unfortunately, Adam fell to sin. He chose sin over God. Many people don't really understand what sin is. We tend to think of sins rather that sin. Sins, (the things we do that are not according to Gods law) are caused by sin, which is a thing that dwells within us..."For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do." (Romans 7:18-19). More importantly, sin is like a wall between us and God, and prevents us from having fellowship with God.

We were all created like Adam and Eve to have perfect fellowship with God. This is the missing piece inside each of us. But God has a plan! God became a man. Jesus Christ, who is, was, and always shall be God, came to earth and became a man. Now we may have heard this idea before. Most of us know what Jesus did and we tend to think of Him as God pretending to be a man. After all He performed so many miracles, healed the sick, fed thousands, walked on water... (I don't know about you but I have trouble walking on solid ground, much less on water!)

But Jesus was a man. He became a man fully.."For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15). The only difference was that He was a man born without sin, and so, He had perfect fellowship with God.... "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake." (John 14:10-11). In fact the Bible calls Jesus a second Adam...."And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." (1 Corinthians 15:45). But this Adam did not fail! Jesus did not fall to sin! And when His life was complete, He offered Himself as the sacrifice for sin. He went upon the cross and became sin, in order to destroy sin!..."For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;" (1 Corinthians 15:3). Then He arose from the dead and conquered death to purchase everlasting life for all who accept Him as Lord and Savior. "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Corinthians 5:21). "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Corinthians 6:20).

Jesus did what He did in order to restore us to fellowship with God! "God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord." (1Corinthians 1:9).

Jesus died so that we can have a daily living relationship with God the Father through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit! "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13).

Jesus laid His life down for His friends, to restore the fellowship with God that sin stole from us! Do you have a living relationship with God? Jesus died for healing...."Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." (1 Peter 2:24). that is physical, emotional and spiritual healing. We were born the first time with sin, through Jesus Christ we can be born again! Born into a new life, a new relationship with God.... "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3). There is a new covenant...."And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel." (Hebrews 12:24). "But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises." (Hebrews 8:6).

We need to do two things to enter into this new covenant with God. Confess and believe. Confess the fact that we are sinners (no you don't have to name every sin you have ever done, God already knows them all, trust me!) And believe that Jesus Christ died for those sins, that He shed His innocent blood to wash away your sin, in order to restore you to fellowship with God. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10). "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood...!" (Revelation 1:5).
